Geography of dialects

 

Hokkien is known for its variety of dialects. Our project focuses on the Southern Peninsular Malaysian Hokkien (SPMH), specifically the Batu Pahat dialect.

Confused about the difference between SPMH and Taiwanese Hokkien?

SPMH comes from the Quanzhou dialect, as shown on the graph.

Taiwanese Hokkien is a mix of the Quanzhou and Zhangzhou dialects, with influence from the Amoy dialect.
